Activated Content will enable Phonofile to mark downloaded music files with a persistent identity to enable the enforcement of copyright communication and law.

Working in close co-operation with 30 Danish music and rights owners to optimize content packaging and sales and distribution practices, Phonofile Denmark currently manages music in two digital formats, with more planned in the near future. The service, which is being launched this month, will offer distribution of music either as MP3 files that include watermarks, Windows Media Microsoft's audio and video framework for Windows, which embraces playback, encoding and streaming. Windows Media Player is the digital jukebox and media player that comes with every version of Windows.  files with DRM or both.

"We provide record companies with the option to choose their preferred distribution format," said Jesper Bang-Olsen, Phonofile CEO.

Phonofile provides a service tailored specifically to the Danish music market, and will eventually offer up to 500,000 tracks from both Danish and international artists through popular consumer-facing Internet portals. The company's service provides consumers with simple, on-demand access to music and requires no subscription.

"The Phonofile Music Download Service is based on the tight integration of technologies provided by 24/7 MusicShop and Activated Content," said Bang-Olsen. "The Danish music industry requires a delivery and security platform flexible enough to switch between business models -- which is what we've achieved. Activated's watermarking technology is a key component, because it enables delivery of music in whatever format the consumer wants."
