Action on knives led to four arrests.


A BLITZ on knife crime led police to arrest four people for carrying weapons on Friday.

Merseyside Police Merseyside Police is the Home Office police force responsible for policing Merseyside in North West England.

The force area is 647 square kilometres with a population of around 1.5 million. At present the force has 4,466 police officers plus over 2,000 police staff.
 held a region-wide Knife Crime Day of Action.

More than 8,200 people were asked to pass through metal detecting arches.

Officers also ran 27 "test purchases" to see if shops would sell blades to children.

The force said it wanted to emphasise that carrying a knife is illegal.

Superintendent Mike Cloherty added: "Working with our partners, we want to stamp out to put an end to by sudden and energetic action; to extinguish; as, to stamp out a rebellion s>.
