Our park in Bowling Green, KY was finished about seven months ago. Now that the hype on the new 'crete has finally chilled out, I'm starting to see the "skatepark trends" emerge. And if you have not yet skated on our very own Southern-style Wally Holliday "creation," keep your eye out for these key trends that are just so hot right now. Skateboarders that rollerblade. Yes, I do know exactly what you're thinking, "Pathetic, isn't it?" Come on! These very half-breeds make up at least 75 to 80 percent of the park's traffic. Even kids that you thought were die-hard skaters can be found there slapping a pair of fruitboots on and doing their heel clickers all over the place. This one kid--and make sure you read this carefully--has a Thrasher tattoo on this leg and sports a pair of rollerblades. It's insane! It makes me sick to my stomach. And there's skate coach dads. Really keep your eyes open for these guys, because before you know it they'll be trying to skate coach you! Skate coaches take the fun out of skating, for sure. This one skate coach dad told me that his son was going to be the next Tony Hawk. Okay, dude. The kid is 13 and he'll probably be over skating by the time he's 20--thanks to you. Good work. And last but not least, mongo pushers. On average it seems one out of every three to four people that skate in Bowling Green push mongo. Even some of the better dudes at the park have fallen victim to the mongo pushing. It's hilarious, but all definitely true. There you have it. Mark my words, if you guys ever venture on over to Bowling Green, KY--steer clear of those fairies trying to get you to try on their rollerblades, dudes trying to tell you how to skate because back in the day that could do a frontside air as high as "them mountains," and mongo pushers! (And no, they're not setting up for a fakie shove-it. I promise!)
