Now with Scheduling Services, subscribers get timely, constantly changing data services content, such as news and weather, automatically delivered to their smart mobile devices on a pre-defined basis. Instead of going online to access and pull content each time they want it, users can set up a delivery schedule once and let the Action Engine Mobile Application Platform automatically push data down to their devices.

The Platform's robust client technology enables a far more effective means of creating content requests, sending those requests to the network, and working with the rich content that is returned to the device.

Persistent local storage on the client is key to creating unsurpassed usability. The client caches application content on local, device-based XML databases. This includes content from contact managers, calendars, and other device functions, as well as content accessed from online data services. By intelligently leveraging these local databases, Action Engine opens the doors to superior data access, both online and off.

The databases let users create sophisticated, multi-part queries offline with applications that use step-by-step, question and answer screens to walk them through the process. With more personalization than browser-based technology, applications running on the Action Engine Platform can pull the cached content for remembering user favorites, share and reuse data across applications, and populate pick lists to reduce typing and accelerate query creation. Any subcomponent of a query can be changed without starting the entire request over from scratch. Finally, the user decides when to send the request to the network.

The client's offline, list-driven query creation accelerates application responsiveness by compiling complete requests with just a few keystrokes and exposing users to fewer network round-trips. Unlike browser-based technologies, Action Engine's reduced reliance on the network allows the Platform to resume a user's request from the point it left off even if the connection drops. Client-side data compression further improves transmission speeds, while HTTPS data encryption ensures the request is securely transmitted to the Action Engine Server.

Action Engine Server - The central processing system of the Action Engine Mobile Application Platform is the Action Engine Server. Optimized to manage the compound, multi-part queries generated by the Action Engine Client, the Server rapidly delivers the text, graphics, audio, and visual data found in today's sophisticated mobile data services.

To that end, the Action Engine Server employs a fast and creative queuing mechanism to parse the client's multi-part requests and then prioritize the transmission of the discrete subcomponent requests, which may span one or more online data services. Robust databases architected for speed cache content from online data services to accelerate responses to requests that have been previously submitted and replied to. The Action Engine Service Manager, an intelligent processing engine, orchestrates the data flow, routing, and processing throughout the Action Engine Server.

To ensure scalability, the Action Engine Server absorbs the complexity of Web services development and deployment to achieve a more responsive and personalized data services experience. Rather than build a new Web service using .NET or Java, developers working with the Action Engine Software Development Kit (SDK) simply build a plug-in to connect to third-party content and online data services. The Action Engine Server handles transaction processing and routing.

In action, the Server decrypts the client's data request and decompresses the data to interpret the request. The request is sent to the queue, which collects, prioritizes, and passes the request to the Action Engine Service Manager to determine whether the request can be fulfilled by locally cached content on the Server's databases or must be sent to the appropriate plug-in for connecting to third party content or systems. The Server takes content and data from the plug-in and transforms it into HTML-based formatting for final processing, including storing appropriate information in the server-side databases as needed and delivering the final results back to the Action Engine Client.
