May 3rd serves as an occasion to inform the public about the importance of the right to freedom of expression. Free media is the vehicle which can hold governments accountable and even force them to perform better. Similarly parliamentary oversight of the executive is not possible without the help of media. Open and pluralistic media are most precious when these provide a mirror for society to see itself.
