Acterna Corporation (NASDAQ:ACTR), a technology company serving the communications, aviation, post-production and government markets, today announced that it has officially moved its corporate headquarters from Burlington, Massachusetts, to Germantown, Maryland.

Acterna Corporation, with fiscal 2001 pro-forma revenue of $1.4 billion, is now one of the five largest technology companies headquartered in the Washington area and one of Maryland's 20 largest corporations.

Acterna Corporation is the holding company for four technology-related companies: Acterna, AIRSHOW, da Vinci Systems and Itronix. Acterna, which is already based in Germantown, is the world's largest provider of test and management solutions for optical transport, access and cable networks, and the second largest communications test company overall.

AIRSHOW supplies in-flight passenger information systems to the aviation industry while da Vinci Systems designs and markets video color correction systems to the post-production industry. Itronix provides wireless-enabled, rugged computing devices for mobile field applications for business, government and public safety applications.

The company employs about 20 people at the Burlington location and expects to add less than a dozen jobs in Germantown as a result of relocations or new hires. The company's Acterna unit accounts for approximately 80 percent of Acterna Corporation revenue and has more than 850 employees working in Germantown.

For the first six months of its fiscal 2002-year, Acterna Corporation reported revenue of $671 million.

Company to Move into New Headquarters in Summer 2002

In mid-2002, Acterna Corporation and Acterna will move into new headquarters in the Milestone Business Park on Ridge Road at Interstate 270 in Germantown. The six-story headquarters building and an adjacent manufacturing center will house more than 850 employees when completed.

The facility will also contain the company's advanced networking labs and its manufacturing operations for products used to test optical, access, data and wireless networks. Acterna employs hundreds of engineers in Germantown, many of whom are researchers working on developing technologies such as high-speed optical networking, gigabit Ethernet, virtual data services, and DSL.

In the last year, Acterna has consolidated a number of its U.S. research and manufacturing operations in Germantown.

Acterna Has Historic Roots in Germantown

Acterna traces its Washington-area roots back to 1974, when communications test company TTC was founded in Rockville. In 1980, Dynatech bought TTC. Then in 2000, TTC merged with European-based test company Wavetek Wandel Goltermann (WWG), creating the second largest player in the communications test business.

Following the merger, Dynatech changed its name to Acterna Corporation and TTC and WWG became Acterna. Clayton Dubilier & Rice, Inc. (CD&R), an investment firm, owns approximately 80 percent of Acterna Corporation's outstanding shares.
