Acterna's TTC 2310 Tester Approved by Verizon Test Set Committee.

Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers

GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 2000

High-Speed Optical Tester will Enable Verizon

Field and Central Office Technicians to Expedite Optical and

Electrical Circuit Testing

Acterna, the new company formed by the May 23, 2000, merger of TTC and Wavetek Wandel Goltermann, today announced that the TTC 2000 Test Pad equipped with the 2310 SONET Field Services Module has been approved by Verizon to support installation and maintenance of the company's DS0 through OC-12 services.

Verizon will deploy the TTC 2310 to expedite service turn-up and optimize operational efficiency in the company's premier wireline voice and data services network in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States.

With the approval of the TTC 2310, many Verizon technicians in these regions will now carry the same unit to more efficiently perform a full range of installation, troubleshooting and maintenance tasks on both optical and electrical circuits.

Verizon's enterprise and wholesale technicians will employ the TTC 2310 to quickly address major account requests for on-premises, optical hand-offs. The capabilities of the TTC 2310 will enable construction technicians to turn up and ensure proper operation of T1 to OC-12 multiplexers, and central office technicians will use the tool to troubleshoot and maintain transport and co-located CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Carrier) An organization offering local telephone service that is not one of the traditional telephone companies. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 allowed competition to the incumbent telcos (ILECs), enabling new companies (CLECs)  services.

"Fortune 1000 companies are demanding greater bandwidth to do business using today's IP-driven applications, and this has led to an increased need for service providers to ensure reliable optical handoffs at the customer premises," said Chris Brozenick, director of product marketing for Acterna's Transport Division. "The 2310 SONET Field Services Module for the TTC Test Pad was engineered to address this need. This easy-to-operate test set packs an array of testing capabilities, including SONET optics and key DS1 and DS0 services, into a lightweight, handheld tool. It also allows for upgrades to future optical speeds and services. Technicians are trained once and can become comfortable with one uncomplicated instrument that remains in use because it is reliable by design and conforms quickly to the customer's newest test requirements."

The 4.5 pound TTC 2000 Test Pad platform provides automated, one-touch testing for many applications through its touch-screen graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
(GUI) and incorporates advanced low power technology to maximize the life of its field-replaceable battery. It offers a rubber overmold to absorb the impact of unexpected falls and every instrument is durability tested to ensure endurance to extremes in heat, cold and vibration. Modules are available to support technologies that include SONET, ATM, DS3, DS1, 2M, TDR, copper loops and DSL. Options include a color or transflective LCD VGA display.
