Acterna, Formerly TTC and WWG, Introduces Industry's First Battery-powered, Hand-held SDH Solution for Network Verification At Rates To 2.5 Gig.Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 2000 2416 Field Service Module for the 2000 Test Pad Tests from 2M to STM-16c Acterna, the new company formed by the May 23, 2000, merger of TTC and Wavetek Wandel Goltermann (WWG), today announced the availability of the 2416 SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) The European counterpart to SONET. See SONET. SDH - Synchronous Digital Hierarchy Field Services Module for the 2000 Test Pad. The module is the first battery-powered, hand-held field solution to offer high-speed SDH testing and monitoring capability up to STM-16. The portable unit is designed to turn up and verify services from 2M (E1) to STM-16c on optical networks in Europe and throughout the world. The 2416 SDH Field Services Module will be available for customer shipment in the first quarter of 2001. It also will be showcased at CeBit (March 21-28) in Hanover, Germany. "Service providers throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America are significantly building-out their SDH networks, and this rapid growth is likely to continue for the next three years," said Chris Brozenick, Acterna marketing director for transport test. "To keep these networks running, installers in the field require an easy-to-use, highly mobile optical testing solution capable of performing across the entire test spectrum, from 2M to STM-16c. Currently, this product is being beta-tested at provider locations around Europe and has been very well received." Supported applications for the 2416 include interface provisioning, verification and commission of tributary services up to STM-16 at STM-64 rings. The unit facilitates optical power-level testing, troubleshoots SDH alarms and services anomalies, and ensures tributary connectivity. Additionally, the 2416 provides APS testing and performance analysis. The modular 2000 Test Pad product line is engineered to meet the needs of a mobile workforce and the challenges of testing evolving technologies. Available modules support OC-48, T1/DS3, signaling, TDR, copper loop qualification, GSM, ISDN PRI, CAS and 2M, and options include a color or transflective LCD VGA display. The 5 pound platform features automated, one-touch testing for many applications through its touch-screen graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI) Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to (GUI), provides VT100 emulation, and incorporates advanced low power technology to maximize the life of its field-replaceable battery. It offers a rubber overmold to absorb the impact of unexpected falls and every instrument is durability tested to ensure endurance to extremes in heat, cold and vibration.
