Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 2003

Actelis' MetaLIGHT 100L Provides Service Providers with Ability to

Quickly and Cost-Effectively Offer Small Businesses High-Speed

Ethernet Services over Copper

Actelis Networks(R), a leading supplier of solutions that enable profitable, carrier-grade broadband services See broadband and broadband service provider.  over local loop copper, today announced the availability of its MetaLIGHT(R) 100L. An addition to its MetaLIGHT metro product family, the MetaLIGHT 100L allows service providers to offer small businesses high-speed Ethernet services without drastically increasing their costs on infrastructure or deployment costs, such as fiber trenching, and dramatically reducing the time to service.

Based on Actelis' patented MetaLOOP(TM) technology, the MetaLIGHT 100L system provides high-speed, fiber-quality Ethernet services over the existing copper plant. The MetaLIGHT 100L is designed to allow service providers to address the small business market and complements Actelis' higher capacity MetaLIGHT metro products. A four copper-pair solution, the MetaLIGHT 100L allows service providers to offer small businesses between 1 to 17 Mbps Ethernet services. If a service provider's customer outgrows the MetaLIGHT 100L bandwidth capabilities, they can simply and cost-effectively upgrade the product to Actelis' MetaLIGHT 100E which provides up to 67 Mbps of Ethernet services over the existing copper plant.

An Ethernet in the First Mile Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM), also known as IEEE 802.3ah, is a collection of protocols specified in IEEE 802.3, defining the Ethernet in the Access networks, i.e. First/Last Mile.  (EFM (Ethernet in the First Mile) Using Ethernet to provide connectivity from the customer to the carrier. MetaLIGHT 100L is simple to deploy without the need for loop pre-qualification. It provides far superior rate, reach and reliability compared to other products on the market and allows service providers to maximize the available revenue from customers throughout the Carrier Serving Area (CSA (1) (Canadian Standards Association, Toronto, Ontario, www.csa.ca) A standards-defining organization founded in 1919. "Service providers are seeing increased demand from small businesses for broadband services," said Thomas P. Reynolds, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, sales and customer support, Actelis Networks. "The entry point for a large segment of this market is below 10 Mbps, and to date, it has been under-served by DSL DSL

The carrier-grade MetaLIGHT 100L system allows service providers to significantly drive down the cost to provide broadband services and deliver dramatic improvements in profits and customer satisfaction."
