Under the agreement with Actel, Maojet will distribute all ProASIC products, which includes all devices in process of geometries of 0.25-micron and smaller, as well as GateField's ASICmaster(tm) design tools software. Actel decided to work with Maojet because of their experience distributing the ProASIC products for GateField Corporation in Taiwan.

In August 1998, Actel and GateField signed a strategic alliance, which provides Actel with exclusive rights to market and sell the new ProASIC product family that is expected to support densities of up to half a million programmable logic See PLD.  gates. This 0.25-micron ProASIC family is based on FLASH technology from the Siemens Semiconductor Group of Munich, Germany and is both non-volatile and reprogrammable. The alliance further provides for migration to smaller process technologies with the potential to produce multi-million gate devices for the ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  (application specific integrated circuit integrated circuit (IC), electronic circuit built on a semiconductor substrate, usually one of single-crystal silicon. The circuit, often called a chip, is packaged in a hermetically sealed case or a nonhermetic plastic capsule, with leads extending from it for ) market.

"As Actel continues to build its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, we needed an established distributor to handle our new ProASIC products in Taiwan," said Patrick Ellington, director of Asia-Pacific sales and marketing, Actel Corporation.
