Acta Leads ETL Industry in Performance; Benchmark Tests Demonstrate ActaWorks 5.1 Leadership in High Performance Data Extraction, Transformation, Loading and Integration.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 2001

Acta Technology, the creator of the first data integration platform to combine real-time and batch data movement, announced today that ActaWorks 5.1 now leads the industry in performance for batch data movement and transformation. In benchmark testing verified by a third party auditor, ActaWorks 5.1 running on an HP N-Class box with 8 CPUs performed 2.5 times faster than Informatica's PowerCenter in data ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) The functions performed when pulling data out of one database and placing it into another of a different type. ETL is used to migrate data, often from relational databases into decision support systems. , moving 2.1 MB of data per second per CPU CPU

Gradient Systems, an independent performance auditor, witnessed the execution of the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) benchmark tests. During the benchmark tests, ActaWorks 5.1 extracted from two tables with a join, performed three transformations and loaded the data into a target fact (or transaction) table.

"In benchmark tests we verified that ActaWorks 5.1 has the fastest data movement we are aware of for any ETL tool including Informatica's PowerCenter," said John M. Stephens, Jr., principal, Gradient Systems. "ETL performance has a direct impact on business efficiencies, and Acta is taking a lead in having its results independently audited to provide additional strength to their industry-leading results," Stephens continued.

"ActaWorks 5.1 is now the fastest data integration tool on the market today," said Chuck Altomare, vice president of Engineering for Acta. "By deploying ActaWorks, companies will not only be able to save time and money by being able to more quickly design and implement data integration projects across the enterprise, but also handle the growing amounts of data that need to be moved during fixed time windows."

The just-released ActaWorks 5.1 doubles the batch performance of ActaWorks 5.0. This improved performance is due to the Acta Performance Optimizer, which provides:
-- Automatic workload distribution, a rules-based engine that puts the ETL work
where it is most efficient -- at the source, target, or in the ActaWorks engine

-- Intelligent threading, which automatically assigns more CPU resource to the
more complex data flows

-- Support for parallel processing and database partitioning that take
advantage of all available computing resources
