With all the press on immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important.  this year, it's refreshing to come across a literary novel about the border told from an immigrant's perspective. First-time novelist Grande crossed the U.S.-Mexico border as a child and she brings her experiences and an eloquent voice to her character Juana, a Mexican teenager. A tragedy devastates Juana's family, causing her father to cross the border to el otro lado. Soon, the family is even further devastated dev·as·tate

 and Juana sets off to find her father. In Tijuana, she meets Adelina, who is coming from the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  also in search of her father. It's a fast-paced story rich with details of the land and the people who inhabit it, and Grande gracefully alternates in telling the story from the perspective of Juana and Adelina.
