At the same time Across is releasing the latest update to the Across Language Server, offering many new functions for the localization of software user interfaces. These updates are geared to both software manufacturers and machine building companies who localize lo·cal·ize

Portal Solution as Corporate Platform

The new Language Portal Solution provides a simple user interface that allows customers operating on an international scale to implement Web portals for all language-related issues and for all staff levels who need to make use of language resources. Authorized users authorized user Radiation physics A person who, having satisfied the applicable training and experience requirements, is granted authority to order radioactive material and accepts responsibility for its safe receipt, storage, use, transfer and disposal  can put translation jobs on such portals and get an overview of their processing status at any time. The corporate Language Portal as front-end helps to streamline processes, increase efficiency and cut costs considerably. The Across Language Server as back-end allows a high level of automation of all translation process steps including costs calculation, system-based assignment and transmission of projects to external language service providers. Companies may choose to do the translation in-house In-house

or to outsource it, depending on the target language, size of the data and document type.

Efficient Software Localization

So far, the Across Language Server has mostly been deployed in the fields of product information and product documentation. New options for software localization provided in this upgrade make new uses possible. As a rule, the wording used in software user interfaces appears in exactly the same or a similar way in operating manuals, online help and marketing material. Therefore, wording already translated can be re-used for different output formats; for example, GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface.  menu texts can be used in online help, and online help texts can be used in operating manuals. This not only increases the consistency and quality of the contents, but also reduces the time to market for language variants of the software, while cutting translation costs significantly.

Daniel Nackovski, president of Across Systems, Inc., says, "Both innovations emphasize the positioning of the Across Language Server as a central platform for all corporate language resources and translation processes. By providing functions for software localization, we now cover the field for which only isolated solutions have been deployed so far. Our portal solution allows for seamless processes involving hundreds or even thousands of users."

Both new capabilities will be demonstrated at various tradeshows internationally in the autumn of 2008.
