Judge Merfyn Hughes QC said: "Furthermore, athletes such as you with any form of self-respect avoid alcohol."

Judge Hughes added burglary was always regarded very seriously by the courts and was serious enough to justify a prison sentence.

Turcescu, who followed the court proceedings with the assistance of an interpreter, admitted burglary.

He was jailed for three months but it was suspended for two years and he was released immediately.

 Thomas was locking up the Scruples night club when he heard a noise in the adjoining locked premises of Club Zinc.

It was about 2.30am and when he went to investigate he found the defendant standing on the dance floor holding a cardboard box cardboard box ncaja de cartón

Mr Thomas immediately secured the building to keep the defendant inside but he kicked at the shutters to try to get out.

Police arrived to find him drunk.

He said he and colleagues from the circus in Rhyl had been out drinking and he himself had drunk a bottle of whisky.

He then went to Scruples Nightclub where he had six or seven beers. His friends had left without him and he was very drunk.

In his interview, the defendant said he did not recall how he had got into locked Club Zinc but said he had gone through a small window at one stage. He believed he had been in a basement and could not find the way out.

The total damage was said to be pounds 10,313 but the defendant disputed the figure and said he did not cause that much damage. Martin Knight, defending, said his client had never been in any trouble before, was very remorseful re·morse·ful

The defendant was not ordered to pay any costs or compensation.
