Fresenius Medical Care AG (Frankfurt Stock Exchange: FME, FME3 / NYSE: FMS, FMS_p), the world's leading provider of dialysis products and services, today announced that Fresenius Medical Care Cardiovascular Resources Holdings, Inc. ("FMC-CVR") has completed the acquisition of all of the stock of Edwards Lifesciences Cardiovascular Resources Inc. ("CRI"), the leading contract provider of perfusion and related cardiovascular services in the United States. FMC-CVR is an affiliate of Fresenius Medical Care owned 45% by Fresenius Medical Care and 55% by institutional investors. Fresenius Medical Care North America will provide management and staffing for the business. Dr. Paul Zabetakis, President of Fresenius Medical Care North America's Extracorporeal Alliance Division, will also serve as President of FMC-CVR.

CRI provides perfusion and related extracorporeal services under contracts to nearly 500 hospitals in 37 states. In 2000 CRI provided more than 110,000 perfusion, autotransfusion and other extracorporeal procedures and achieved net revenue of about U.S. $120 million.
