Gartner Dataquest's User Survey for Personal Wireless, dated June 24, 2004, hands-free capability is the highest-ranked new feature that motivates the purchase of a new mobile handset in the next 12 months. Integrated full-duplex speakerphone capability is a key component in next-generation 3G mobile phones to enable simultaneous access to voice and data for videoconferencing A real time video session between two or more users or between two or more locations. Although the first videoconferencing was done with traditional analog TV and satellites, inhouse room systems became popular in the early 1980s after Compression Labs pioneered digitized video systems  and hands-free operation. SoundClear software for cellular handsets offers high-quality full-duplex hands-free operation, noise reduction, and improved speech intelligibility Noun 1. speech intelligibility - the intelligibility of speech (usually measured in the presence of noise or distortion)

The software is optimized to provide high-quality voice with minimal MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second.  and memory usage.

"We are very pleased to welcome Acoustic Technologies as a valued member of the StarCore Alliance Program. The combination of the proven ATS5500 SoundClear software and StarCore's superior code density and efficiency provides a compelling hands-free solution to our customers," said Philippe Bettler, manager of strategic alliances at StarCore.

StarCore's SC1000 family is licensable intellectual property that provides system-on-chip (SoC) designers with the right combination of DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  performance and related subsystem capabilities. StarCore products are used in communications systems, wireless phones and other consumer electronics products. SoundClear software is available for StarCore SC1000-family cores.
