Acopia Networks Extends Leadership in Network File Virtualization with Release of 2.0 Products; Adds the Ability to Build File Server Clusters and Distributed Storage Grids.

LOWELL, Mass. -- Acopia Networks, the innovator of Adaptive Resource Networking, today announced the availability of version 2.0 of its ARX(TM) products. Built upon its award-winning first version, release 2.0 adds unique capabilities to build high-performance clusters of leading file servers and to scale its file virtualization See storage virtualization.  services across global enterprises with distributed data centers.

"As customers achieve dramatic performance and manageability improvements with our products, they are quickly broadening the scope of deployment to a larger set of resources across global enterprises," said Brendon Howe, VP of marketing at Acopia Networks. "Version 2.0 delivers new capability in scaling file virtualization, far beyond the capabilities of appliance-based approaches."

Acopia's version 2.0, which runs on all three of the ARX platforms, further extends its leadership position in the file virtualization product segment. New features provided in this release include:

--Global network file services - the industry's only enterprise-wide namespace A collection of names for a particular purpose. Typically, each name is unique. For example, tables in a relational database must all have unique names. A Windows workgroup that uses the original NetBIOS naming system requires a different "made-up" name for each computer and printer in  for files, extending the virtualization An umbrella term for enhancing a computer's ability to do work.  benefits across multiple switches and sites. The Global Presentation Namespace supports non-disruptive operational failover between data centers to greatly enhance the backup attributes of existing file servers;

--Real-time performance load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them  - enhanced file server clustering See clustering.  features of the ARX that build a "grid" of file servers to dynamically load balances data access, greatly increasing application performance while providing best-possible utilization of existing file servers;

--Ease of configuration and management - new utilities to allow customers to quickly deploy and manage services. The new products are: ARN-Manager, a graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
 application to greatly simplify the configuration and management of ARX services; and ARN-Site Analyzer, a site analysis tool that inventories the existing file servers and data to report on the opportunities to improve performance and manageability when deploying the ARX.

"We use Acopia's products to dramatically reduce our back up times, greatly increase our operational failover between data centers, and significantly reduce the time we spend manually managing storage capacity," said Yury Gutgarts, CIO CIO: see American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations.

About Acopia Networks

Acopia Networks is the innovator of Adaptive Resource Networking products, a new class of file switches that uniquely solve the problem of managing unstructured data in the global enterprise. Acopia's Adaptive Resources Switches (ARX) allow customers to improve performance and better utilize existing file server infrastructure. The products also provide non-disruptive data replication, migration, and capacity balancing across multiple NAS (1) See network access server.

(2) (Network Attached Storage) A specialized file server that connects to the network. A NAS device contains a slimmed-down operating system and a file system and processes only I/O requests by supporting the popular
