Acopia Extends Global Data Management Services; New Software Supports Multi-Protocol, Distributed Global Namespace with Heterogeneous Data Protection and Advanced ILM Services.

LOWELL, Mass. -- Acopia Networks(R), the pioneer of Adaptive Resource Networking, today announced the availability of a new software release for its' award winning ARX(R) switches, version 2.4, that provides customers with new advanced features for global data management. The new software provides features that are unique in the industry, including support for distributed multi-protocol global namespace functionality with embedded data replication and advanced ILM (Information Lifecycle Management Information Lifecycle Management refers to a wide-ranging set of strategies for administering storage systems on computing devices. Specifically, four categories of storage strategies may be considered under the auspices of ILM. ) services.

"Our customers are expanding the deployments of ARX products across the enterprise to extend their data management initiatives worldwide," said Brendon Howe, VP of Marketing at Acopia Networks. "Version 2.4 delivers advanced data management services that scale across a distributed, global infrastructure."

Acopia's version 2.4, which runs on all three ARX platforms, further extends Acopia leadership in the file virtualization arena. New features provided in this release include:

Multi-Protocol Global Namespace - The industry's only multi-protocol, distributed namespace A collection of names for a particular purpose. Typically, each name is unique. For example, tables in a relational database must all have unique names. A Windows workgroup that uses the original NetBIOS naming system requires a different "made-up" name for each computer and printer in  for both Windows (CIFS (Common Internet File System) The file sharing protocol used in Windows. It evolved out of the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol in DOS, which is why the terms CIFS/SMB and SMB/CIFS are sometimes seen. The word "Internet" in the CIFS name has little relevance. ) and Unix/Linux (NFS (Network File System) The file sharing protocol in a Unix network. This de facto Unix standard, which is widely known as a "distributed file system," was developed by Sun. See file sharing protocol and WebNFS.

Heterogeneous Data Protection - Extensions to Acopia's existing data replication capability for disaster recovery and site fail-over with multi-vendor, multi-protocol support across a distributed enterprise environment.

Advanced ILM Policies - Enhancements to Acopia's adaptive data management functionality with "project level" policy awareness for ILM initiatives.

"We use Acopia's products to virtualize To cause a virtual technique to be performed. We're also deploying the ARX to automatically replicate data to our disaster recovery site, and provide site fail over services", said Iain Goodwin, ICT (1) (Information and Communications Technology) An umbrella term for the information technology field. "Acopia is the only company to deliver solutions that scale the value of virtualization across the global enterprise," said Christopher P. "Acopia's success with production deployments at Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, and dozens of other Fortune 500 companies speaks for itself."

Version 2.4 for the ARX500, ARX1000 and ARX6000 will be available in 30 days.

About Acopia Networks

Acopia Networks is the innovator of Adaptive Resource Networking products, a new class of file switches that uniquely solve the problem of managing unstructured data in the global enterprise. Acopia's Adaptive Resources Switches (ARX) allow customers to improve performance and better utilize existing file server infrastructure. The products also provide non-disruptive data replication, migration, and capacity balancing across multiple NAS (1) See network access server.
