Acme Packet(TM), the leading developer of session border controllers, and Tangerine, Inc., a developer of softswitch application platforms, today announced a partnership to help emerging service providers offer innovative, revenue-generating applications. The companies recently completed successful interoperability testing between Acme Packet's award-winning Net-Net(TM) session border controllers, and Tangerine's Tangerine Connect, a softswitch application platform for next generation VoIP networks. The two companies are engaging in joint marketing and sales efforts to enable service providers to deploy advanced revenue generating applications such as SIP-based prepaid calling cards and other enhanced voice services.

Tangerine Connect is a softswitch-based application platform for small and medium service providers. Supporting pre-paid conferencing, it provides endpoint authorization and call routing and rating functionality. Acme Packet's Net-Net session border controller protects the Tangerine Connect server infrastructure from DoS attacks and helps the application scale with SIP-based call set-up, server load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them  and failover and low latency Low latency allows human-unnoticeable delays between an input being processed and the corresponding output providing real time characteristics. This can be especially important for internet connections utilizing services such as online gaming and VOIP - VOIP is not as important as  media flow. The combined solution is a distributed, scalable, highly available affordable architecture that enables providers to grow their network from, say, a single T1 to 400 T1s without changing their architecture.

"The combination of Acme Packet's session border controllers and Tangerine Connect creates a joint solution that allows service providers to generate additional revenue by hosting new and innovative applications like SIP-based prepaid calling," said Thomas Howe Thomas Howe may refer to:
