Acme Packet Powers Communications Across IP Network Borders with Power-One's Z-One Digital Power.

CAMARILLO, Calif. -- Power-One, Inc., (Nasdaq:PWER) today released details on a Z-One(TM) Digital IBA (Intermediate Bus Architecture) design win to power products that bridge disparate Internet Protocol (IP) networks, enabling service providers to offer converged wireline, wireless, and cable communications. Acme Packet's application utilizes from 4 to 24 Z-Series Point-Of-Load (POL) converters per card, providing up to seven different voltages from 1.0 to 5.0VDC.

Some other digital power products provided industry standard two-wire monitoring and control, while other analog power products provided a means to sequence and adjust ramp rates of power rails. Only the Z-One power solutions provided us an integrated answer to all our inter-board and intra-board requirements while providing enough flexibility for our changing prototype power needs, without costly PCB modifications."

The industry-standard I(2)C-compatible Z-7000 Series utilizes an extremely-scalable architecture that employs many revolutionary operating concepts. An extensive range of parameters, such as Vout for each POL, is user-programmed via I(2)C protocols, or through a graphical user interface, and stored in a Digital Power Manager. At system startup, the Digital Power Manager uses this stored information to initialize up to 32 POLs. After system initialization, ongoing bi-directional communications facilitate intelligent power system operation. Hardware-configurable Z-1000 POLs are also available for customers preferring power management without programming.
