Ackley scores qualifying mark.

AZUSA, Calif. - Oregon freshman Marshall Ackley finished ninth and met the U.S. Junior National Championships qualifying standard in the decathlon decathlon (dĭkăth`lŏn), in modern Olympic games, a contest for men held over two days and composed of 10 track-and-field events.  at the California Invitational on Thursday.

The Nyssa freshman scored 6,110 points, 60 more than the qualifying standard. Washington's Blake Bidleman won the competition with 7,006 points.

Ackley was partially pleased with his second-day marks in the 110-meter hurdles (16.00 seconds); discus discus /dis·cus/ (dis´kus) pl. dis´ci   [L.] disk.
