), the leading oral care expert, had revealed in 2007, that the 21st century's biggest threat to teeth was acid erosion.

Acid erosion is the wear to tooth enamel enamel, a siliceous substance fusible upon metal. It may be so compounded as to be transparent or opaque and with or without color, but it is usually employed to add decorative color. This dental condition is a form of erosion that is caused by acid softening the surface of the tooth's enamel, which results in a reduced enamel thickness and can lead to changes to the teeth such as changes to texture, shape, colour and appearance. Moreover, teeth can suffer from hyper-sensitivity.

In today's modern lifestyle, there is generally a greater understanding about lifestyle, health and nutrition. Although the modern diet is considered healthier than in the past, GSK warns that the food and drink consumed as part of this diet is often highly acidic acidic /acid·ic/ (ah-sid´ik) of or pertaining to an acid; acid-forming.
