, extending from Zaragoza to the Mediterranean Coast.

Scheduled to begin in 2002, this is Acesa's first deployment of LEAF fiber. When complete, the network will connect the entire northeast region of Spain from Catalunya to Aragon and link Acesa's existing fiber-optic network across Catalunya. Corning Cable Systems is the exclusive cable and hardware supplier for this project.

"Corning is proud to offer the technology to support Acesa's optical network project," said Derrick Wells, managing director, Corning Optical Fiber Europe. "We are pleased to be working with Acesa and applaud their commitment to the development of high-technology telecommunications infrastructures in the Iberian Peninsula."

LEAF fiber, the world's most advanced non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber (NZ-DSF NZ-DSF Non-Zero-Dispersion Shifted Fiber (Fujitsu) ), offers network providers worldwide the lowest cost-per-bit advantage. Its patented large effective area allows higher levels of power to be transmitted through the fiber than standard NZ-DSFs, minimizing the non-linear effects that degrade system performance. LEAF fiber helps drive down the cost of bandwidth for today's most advanced and economically competitive networks.

LEAF fiber continues to be deployed by carriers worldwide in advanced, high data rate networks. Key LEAF fiber customers to date include Argus Telecommunications, AT&T, Broadwing Communications, Cable & Wireless, Carrier1, China Netcom, China Telecom, China Unicom, COLT Telecom Group COLT Telecom Group plc (originally City Of London Telecommunications) is a telecommunications company based in the United Kingdom, but with operations in 13 countries in Europe.  plc, Communications Authority of Thailand, Eurotunnel, Interoute (i-21 network), Impsat, KG Telecom, LD COM (1) (Computer Output Microfilm) Creating microfilm or microfiche from the computer.
