Featuring the new Intel Centrino Mobile Technology Duo platform, codenamed "NAPA," the dual-core processing capabilities of the TravelMate 8200 make it one of the most powerful systems available, offering desktop-like performance, superior productivity, versatility and security to advanced business professionals and corporate users. Built around key concepts of efficiency and reliability, the TravelMate 8200 also offers such style features as a contemporary folio design and a carbon-fiber cover, used in the aerospace industry and Formula 1 racing for its strength, rigidity and lightweight characteristics.

The TravelMate 8200 is the next-generation offering of Acer's award-winning TravelMate 800/8000/8100 platform. Originally announced in March 2003, this TravelMate family has been widely acclaimed as the highest performing thin-and-light notebook available while receiving many industry accolades, including Editors Choice designations from PC Magazine, C/net, ZDnet, and Tech Edge Magazine, a Best Buy award from Laptop and PC World Magazines and the #1 rated multi-purpose notebook in PC World Magazine.

Superior Performance

The new TravelMate 8200 series, designed on Intel's latest "Napa" platform, offers speeds of up to 2.16GHz, the new Intel 945PM Express chipset with up to 677MHz FSB and full wireless connectivity offered through an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection chipset. Standard system memory is 1024MB which is scalable to 2048MB while the serial-ATA 5400RPM Hard Drive offers storage capacity of up to 120GB.

DDR2 memory provides the TravelMate 8200 with serious horsepower while the first-class ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1600 graphics card with 512MB Hypermemory (256MB external GDDR3 VRAM and 256 MB of shared system memory) offers brilliant graphic performance, enhanced still further by DVI support. The TravelMate 8200 features a bright 15.4" widescreen TFT display with 1680x1050 pixel resolution and Acer GridVista, a proprietary software dividing the screen in up to 4 windows each running a different application simultaneously.

With the Intel Centrino Mobile Technology Duo platform, the TravelMate 8200 offers long-lasting battery life of up to 3.5-hours (based on configuration with standard 9 cell battery pack). Additional battery life can be achieved using the hot-swappable Acer MediaBay modules, allowing for on-the-fly PC configuration changes by adding either a secondary battery pack or a SATA Hard disk.

The TravelMate 8200 series features a 5-in-1 card reader together with a wide range of I/O ports that includes: a connector to Acer ezDock, Acer's PCI-Express based port replicator, an ExpressCard slot, a PC Card slot, 4 USB 2.0 ports, DVI-D port, SmartCard slot, IEEE 1394 port; External Display (VGA) port, Fast Infrared port; S-video/TV-out port, Headphones/speaker/line-out port with S/PDIF support, Microphone/line-in jack, Ethernet (RJ-45) port; Modem (RJ-11) port and DC-in jack for AC adapter.

All models feature a DVD-Super Multi Double Layer burner installed in the AcerMedia Bay.

Productivity Enhancements

To meet the growing demand for IP-based communication facilities, the TravelMate 8200 features Acer Video Conference with Voice and Video over IP (VVoIP) support via the Acer OrbiCam and the Acer Bluetooth VoIP phone.

Acer OrbiCam, the LCD panel-mounted 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera features:

--225-degree ergonomic rotation;

--Acer VisageOn technology (face tracking and centering software);

--Acer OptimaLight technology (image improving software).

Acer has also equipped the TravelMate 8200 with a suite of software utilities -- Acer Empowering Technology -- designed to provide users with rapid access to the most advanced management and setting functions in no more than 3 mouse-clicks. For example, eDataSecurity Management provides superior security and protection of crucial data by creating a folder that automatically encrypts confidential files, while eRecovery management allows secure back-up of Hard Disk, OS and personal files. ePerformance management provides rapid disk and speed optimization along with disk fragmentation functions, while eSettings management allows intelligent system management. Security Features

Acer is well aware of the risks of sudden crashes in everyday mobility. To limit Hard Disk damage, the TravelMate 8200 is equipped with DASP+ (Disk Anti Shock Protection) technology consisting of:

--Acer Gravisense technology that detects sudden motion changes of notebook (such as a fall) and automatically retracts the disk heads to avoid surface scratching;

--Anti Theft technology that warns the user when the system is being moved; and

--Acer Disk Anti-Shock Protection technology preventing Hard Disk shocks and guaranteeing unprecedented levels of active physical security.

The TravelMate 8200 also protects against unauthorized access through the Acer SmartCard Security Solution with integrated Acer Platinum Secret security software to provide one-click encryption/decryption features.

The TravelMate 8200 notebook series comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows XP Professional and a complete range of utility programs.
