Ace place in capital; British Break.

Byline: By Jasbir Authi

ALONG with the hope of good weather, plenty of money and a tube map, a good hotel is a must when visiting London.

Days spent traipsing round all the countless world famous sights, squares and attractions, not to mention muse ums, can take its toll if you are unable to fully recharge in the evenings.

The four-star Ambassador's Hotel in Bloomsbury, a five minute walk from Euston and St Pancras St Pancras (or Saint Pancras) may refer to:
  • Saint Pancras of Taormina
  • Saint Pancras, the saint martyred c.304 AD after whom the following are directly or indirectly named
Stations, is the perfect choice for the tourist eager to sample some affordable luxury in the Metropolis.

The hotel recently underwent a pounds 7 million refurbishment which comple ments the 1929 Edwardian appearance.

The lobby is bright, airy and the citrus shade decor is enough to awaken the senses after a drab train journey.

After a speedy check-in, a member of staff carried my bags to the second floor room which was a pleasant surprise from all the others I had stayed in during previous trips to London.

My room was large, refreshingly mod ern, with a huge flat screen LCD TV A flat panel TV that uses LCD technology or a rear-projection TV that is based on LCD microdisplay panels. See flat panel TV, rear-projection TV and LCD. , plush bathrobes, a welcoming bowl of fruit and a bed comfy enough to sink in.

It faced the bustling main road but once I closed the windows, I heard nothing of the unrelenting traffic outside.

Anyone who visits London knows they can return to their hotel after a day of sightseeing feeling as though they have been in a coal mine shaft.

Dining at Number Twelve, the hotel restaurant, is a pleasure. After a starter of Irish Salmon, I ordered roasted rabbit with Jerusalem artichoke Jerusalem artichoke, tuberous-rooted perennial (Helianthus tuberosus) of the family Asteraceae (aster family), native to North America, where it was early cultivated by the indigenous inhabitants.  and spaghetti of carrots. The dessert, 70 per cent Val-rhona chocolate mousse, was to die for.

The sommelier was always on hand to advise about the extensive wine selec tion.

A cooked breakfast can be ordered but there are also plenty of breads, fruits, cold meats, fish, and freshly-made smoothies in the general buffet.
