Ace Penfold storms to singles title; BOWLS.

RUGBY Thornfield Indoor Bowls Club staged their competitions over the Easter weekend with Bob Penfold taking the men's championship singles and Maureen Edwards Maureen Edwards is an Australian actress, who remains best known for her role as Matron Rosemary Prior in the television series A Country Practice.

She also had a recurring role in Prisoner as prison officer Sue Bailey, another recurring role in
 the ladies' event.

Former champion Penfold lined up against Mick Woodward and after losing the first three ends with singles he won ten ends on the bounce to lead 16-3 before finally winning 21-8.

Edwards was 10-0 up after six ends and went on to beat Julia Scott 21-11.

Howard Wilkins was 14-7 adrift at 12 ends, won the next six ends with one treble, three doubles and two singles to lead 18-14 to set him up for his 21-17 open singles victory over Steve Smith. John Peacock was successful in the over-60s singles with a 21-11 victory over Bob Henderson Bob Henderson is a former radio DJ and talk show host whose career culminated in Cleveland, Ohio. Henderson started his career at WNCO-AM in Ashland, Ohio, and worked at several Cleveland AM stations.  and in the over-60s pairs Richard Pope and Herbie Brand beat Mick Goodin and Gordon Cross 21-14.

Matt Lever and Howard Wilkins took the men's pairs title with a 25-12 victory against Roy Scott Roy Hamilton Scott (born May 6, 1917, Clyde, Otago and died August 5, 2005 at Christchurch) was a New Zealand cricketer who played in one Test in 1947.

Roy Scott was a middle-order right-handed batsman and a medium-pace bowler who played for Canterbury across the 1940s.

. After leading 77-16 at 16 ends Jean Pebody and Maureen Edwards finished strongly with two trebles and two singles - against an 18th end single - to win the ladies' pairs 25-17 against Olive Carrington and Beryl Stevenson.

Chris Chapman, Chris Allen and Dave Sands were hanging in with a 13-12 lead at 14 ends before weighing in with 3, 3, 2 to return a 21-12 winning triples card against Carl Mosteckyj and lad and dad Matt and Brian Lever.

Heather Mills, Yvonne Bromfield and Maureen Edwards won the ladies' triples 28-11 against Olive Garrington, Beryl Stevenson and Pat Dahlgren.

The men's fours title went to Bill Yates, Mick Woodward, Brian Thompson and Graham Howes with a 19-17 success against Sam Troop, Jim Dickson, Tom Millership and John Thomson and in the ladies' fours Julie Smith, Charlotte Butcher, Kim Tubb and Jean Dean beat Trudy Windsor, Pat Rumbold, Joan Hollis and Elaine Croswell 20-13.

Lesley and Graham Howes were 23-10 open pairs winners against Tom Millership and Jim Dickson, the Wainfleet pairs title went to Jamie-Lea Winch and Chris Allen. Joan and Brian Lever took the Mr & Mrs pairs..
