Nugent, who led by three strokes from Parry on 214 going into the final round, had the title in his grasp until he racked up a horrendous eight at the par-five final hole at Abergele for a closing 79 to finish level with Parry, who had just finished with a 76 in the previous group. Parry won thanks to his better final 18 holes.

It was a second big win for the 17-year-old Coleg Menai student having won the Boys Under-15 title in 2007.

Nugent, from the Fulford Heath club in Birmingham, took firm control with a 70 in the third round at Abergele.
