), a global leader in optical transport, embedded Power Architecture[TM] processing and storage solutions, announced today that Accusys has selected AMCC's PowerPC 440SP storage processor for their new leadership RAID Controller A disk controller card that supports one or more RAID configurations. Originally only for SCSI drives, RAID controllers have become very popular for PATA and SATA drives. See RAID.  family (ACS-81000, ACS-82410, ACS-92000, ACS-93000). Accusys is a worldwide leader in design, manufacturing, and marketing of RAID products.

The AMCC PowerPC 440SP storage processor enables these new Accusys products to deliver unmatched performance, flexibility and the ability to meet demanding customer storage requirements for their RAID applications. With RAID 5 and RAID 6 acceleration engines, 4Gb DDR (Double Data Rate) Refers to an SDRAM memory chip that increases performance by doubling the effective data rate of the frontside bus. For more details, see SDRAM.

2-667 memory controller, high bandwidth internal bus structure and multiple high speed I/O interfaces, the AMCC PowerPC 440SP allows Accusys to fully utilize the performance of the 4Gb Fibre Channel and 3Gb SAS (1) (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, www.sas.com) A software company that specializes in data warehousing and decision support software based on the SAS System. Founded in 1976, SAS is one of the world's largest privately held software companies. See SAS System.  connectivity.

The new ACCUSYS RAID controllers feature dual 4Gb FC or 3Gb SAS uplinks support for both SAS and SATA (Serial ATA) A serial version of the ATA (IDE) interface, which has been the de facto standard hard disk interface for desktop PCs for more than two decades. The original Parallel ATA (PATA) interface was launched in 1986. 2 disk arrays. They also support numerous advanced storage array features and functions including multiple RAID levels, on-line capacity provisioning, dynamic volume management, and disk health monitoring while delivering high performance and flexibility at a cost-effective price point.

"We are pleased to have been selected by Accusys to power their new advanced RAID controllers. Accusys is clearly responding to RAID solution challenges and the PowerPC 440SP is a key factor in their product differentiation Product Differentiation

," said Sam Fuller, Vice President Marketing at AMCC. "The high performance, wide range of features and flexibility of our PowerPC 440SP is helping Accusys deliver leadership solutions on a short development cycle. Customer wins of this nature clearly validate the strategic investments AMCC has made to maintain a leadership position with its Storage Processor products. Their proven RAID architecture and reliability are a winning combination as they continue to be selected by a growing number of storage OEMs and ODMs."

"The performance gained from the AMCC storage processor is quite significant," said Frank Hu, Director of Product Strategy at Accusys. "AMCC's PowerPC 440SP simply empowers Accusys controllers to deliver higher performance by saturating and utilizing 100% of the fiber channel bandwidth. This is certainly critical with the deployment of 4Gb FC and 3Gb SAS solutions in the storage market. And it took only about three weeks to get the controller running. That is very fast compared to other development experiences."

"The power of the AMCC PowerPC 440SP enables all of the complex RAID operations to be performed efficiently and smoothly with very little impact on other applications," said Jemmy jem·my
