Business Editors

EVANSVILLE, Ind. & COLUMBIA, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 2000

Accuride Corporation, North America's leading manufacturer and supplier of both steel and aluminum wheels to the commercial trucking industry, announced today that it has secured a patent for an innovative wheel manufacturing process for full-faced light steel wheels.

"We are extremely pleased to receive a patent on this unique production process. It is a tribute to the creativity of our talented engineers," said Richard Giromini, Accuride's Senior Vice President of Technology and General Manager of Light Vehicle Operations. "This process provides greater steel contouring flexibility allowing our customers a wider range of design and styling alternatives for both low and high offset wheels."

Production of the new 16-inch full-faced wheel, which will be used on a 2002 model year vehicle, will begin in late 2001 at Accuride's Columbia, Tennessee Columbia is a city in Maury County, Tennessee, United States. "In addition to adding contouring flexibility, by producing wheels as the patent prescribes, we have introduced an improved assembly technology that results in significantly enhanced uniformity levels. This represents an improvement over all existing full-face designs currently being used," explained Craig Kessler, Director of Operations at Accuride's Columbia facility. "Additionally, the gutter behind the disc has been significantly reduced, thus virtually eliminating the potential for material entrapment entrapment, in law, the instigation of a crime in the attempt to obtain cause for a criminal prosecution.
