Accumux Technologies announced today that it has begun shipping its second generation etalon-based Dispersion Compensation Modules (DCM) against a backlog of orders. Its Light Fixer fixer,

(TM) DCM offers the lowest insertion loss available in the market today and provides the most cost-effective dispersion compensation across the greatest number of channels. Accumux produces high-precision optical components and sub-systems for DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.

The Light Fixer DCM is 100% slope compensated across the C band enabling dispersion compensation from 336 ps/nm to 2,688 ps/nm. These low profile DCMs can be installed into existing networks to improve the performance of the fiber cable span, enabling extremely low residual transmission errors at speeds of up to 10 Gb/s.

"Advanced Dispersion Compensation Management solutions are an important part of BTI's Optical Link System (OLS OLS Ordinary Least Squares

) and we're looking forward to evaluating Accumux's etalon-based technology in field trials," said Paul Vella, VP of Optical Development at BTI Photonics. "So far the devices appear to meet all our performance targets and they would enable us to offer a range of tunable broadband DCMs, compact enough to fit in a single circuit pack slot of our system."

Customers are looking to expand the number of channels they can use on a fiber span. Some of the existing technology like Fiber Bragg Grating A short length of optical fiber that filters out a particular wavelength. Periodically spaced zones in the fiber core are altered to have different refractive indexes slightly higher than the core.  (FBG) and electronic-based Digital Signal Processing See DSP.

Digital Signal Processing - (DSP) Computer manipulation of analog signals (commonly sound or image) which have been converted to digital form (sampled).
(DSP) limited the number of channels from 1-8 as a single component. To obtain the full C band, these solutions must combine multiple components, which add cost and performance degradation.

At the OFC show in Atlanta, Accumux will demonstrate their DCM products at Booth 3945.

About BTI Photonics Inc.

BTI develops and provides integrated amplification, signal conditioning and performance monitoring solutions for intelligent optical networks. The company's network-ready Optical Link System (OLS) offers optical equipment vendors a managed, cost-optimized solution to quickly and easily address service provider requirements for flexible transport link extension within DWDM and CWDM (Course WDM) An optical transmission method that is used for shorter distances than dense WDM (DWDM). Also known as "wide WDM," CWDM transmits fewer channels and uses wider spacing between the channels for distances up to 60 km. Wider spacing up to 25 nm, compared to 1.  Metro Regional optical networks. Headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, BTI was launched in 2000. For more information, visit www.btiphotonics.com
