STATE COLLEGE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 29, 2003

New Product Offers Innovative Weather Graphics, "Zoomable" Radar Imagery Imagery produced by recording radar waves reflected from a given target surface. , Personalized Weather Forecasts in Color and More

AccuWeather.com (www.accuweather.com), the Web site of the world's leading commercial weather company, has introduced the first BREW enabled weather application to offer "zoomable" and animated radar imagery for wireless phones. The new, state-of-the-art wireless weather application, based on QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless BREW is an application development platform created by Qualcomm for mobile phones. It was originally developed for CDMA handsets, but has since been ported to other air interfaces including GSM/GPRS, UMTS, and CDMA.  (BREW)(TM) platform, delivers rich, multimedia weather forecasts and images to users who download the application using the latest handsets.

The AccuWeather wireless application, which recently won Best of Show at Internet World Essentials and is currently offered by the Verizon Wireless Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless, owns and operates the second largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States, based on total wireless customers.  Get It Now(SM) service, was developed using BREW technology, in partnership with eMbience, a premier global wireless software developer. The application allows users to download rich, weather graphics and forecasts, along with innovative, animated radar and satellite imagery Satellite imagery consists of photographs of Earth or other planets made from artificial satellites.  directly to their phones.

"As soon as we realized the BREW platform could support the type of quality weather content the AccuWeather brand is known for, we quickly moved forward with the development of a full-featured wireless weather application that would look and feel like the most comprehensive forecast on the Internet," says Joel N. Myers, founder and president of AccuWeather, Inc. The AccuWeather.com wireless application, which can be viewed at (http://wireless.accuweather.com), includes the following features:

-- Pinpointed 10-day Local Forecasts updated four times daily

-- Detailed Hour-by-Hour(TM) Forecasts

-- Rain, Snow and Ice Forecasts, including likely inches of

precipitation

-- Zoomable Radar Animations for local, metro, state and region,

which will show moving weather systems

-- Regional and National Satellite Imagery, updated hourly

-- AccuWeather.com's patent-pending RealFeel Temperature(TM),

which gives a more accurate measurement of what the

temperature actually feels like based on seven different

weather variables

AccuWeather's wireless weather application delivers more than just the average download. Consumers can watch storms on the radar screen sweep across their wireless handset while zooming in and out on the radar - to view specific metropolitan areas, and state or regional views. In addition, the application delivers hourly, daily and weekly forecasts with icons representing current weather conditions and hour-by-hour forecasts.

"Being the first BREW-enabled weather application to offer 'zoomable' and animated radar imagery is important, but so is the overall performance of the product," says Myers. "With this sophisticated application, AccuWeather.com sets the standard in multimedia weather for the wireless industry."

Dr. Myers adds, "With the recent recognition from Internet World Essentials 2003 as 'Best of Show,' it's clear that we have achieved both goals. With the release of the AccuWeather.com wireless application, AccuWeather.com has been recognized in the industry as a true innovator in wireless technology, and is well on its way to becoming the dominant player in the distribution of wireless-related content and information."
