AccuPoll Receives Certification for Electronic Voting System in Ohio; Company Makes Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail Available Throughout State.

Business Editors/Political Writers

TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 2004

AccuPoll, Inc. (OCTBB:ACUP ACUP - Association of Canadian University Presses (Association des Presses Universitaires Canadiennes)), a developer of Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) voting systems, today announced the receipt of state certification for its voting system in the state of Ohio. The receipt of certification for the company's equipment now provides for the availability of electronic voting systems with a voter verified paper audit trail

"This is a significant event because Ohio has been on the forefront of the VVPAT debate," said Frank Wiebe, President of AccuPoll. "Just recently, new legislation was passed requiring a VVPAT to be included with all direct electronic recording voting systems. We believe this factor contributed to recent decisions by counties across the state to delay purchase of new equipment because the 'paperless' voting machines they were considering did not have the capability for a true paper audit trail."

AccuPoll designed their DRE voting system from the outset to feature a VVPAT, which allows voters to verify -- via an immediately printed paper audit trail -- that their vote was accurately recorded at the time it is cast. As a result, AccuPoll's VVPAT system fully empowers voters to independently ensure that their vote is correct at the time it is cast, allowing for an accurate recount and audit capability should the need arise.

Before voting systems can be sold in their jurisdictions, most states require that voting systems be qualified under rigorous federal voting system standards and then undergo a certification process in their state. Earlier this year, AccuPoll received federal qualification for their system and is now working with state election officials across the country to certify its electronic voting systems.

"We, like many public officials throughout Ohio, strongly believe that a paper audit trail is absolutely essential," said Wiebe. "AccuPoll's VVPAT provides that a permanent paper record that is verified by voters is available as an official record in the event of a recount and is critical to ensuring voter confidence when voting electronically."
