Accu-Sort(R) Dimensioner Receives U.S. and Canada Certification; Credentials Allow Parcel Customers to Recoup Lost Revenue.

PHILADELPHIA -- Accu-Sort([R]) Systems announced today that its DM3500 Dimensioner has received new certifications from government organizations in the U.S. and Canada. The U.S. NTEP (National Type Evaluation Program) and the Measurement Canada certifications approve the DM3500's ability to make accurate dimension calculations at box flow rates up to 600 ft/min (183 m/min), more than 50 percent faster than competitive products. The DM3500 dimensioner has also received NTEP certification for non-singulated box flows to 300 ft/min (91.4 m/min), providing dimensioning capability for a variety of transportation and logistics applications. The new credentials allow Accu-Sort's parcel customers to recoup potentially lost revenue by certifying box dimensions. If the DM3500 determines that a box has different dimensions than those claimed by the customer, the credential gives the parcel shipper the necessary certification to charge back an amount to cover the more accurate shipping cost.

The faster transport speed, combined with box spacing as close as two inches (5 cm), significantly improves throughput compared to other solutions. For box heights up to four inches (10 cm), the DM3500 dimensioner is certified for 0.1-inch error (0.25 cm), compared to 0.2-inch (0.5 cm) for competitive units. This means that users can certify box heights as small as 1.2 inches (3 cm), based on the NTEP minimum requirement of 12d, where d is the maximum error. For box heights greater than four inches and lengths/widths greater than 2.4 inches (6.1 cm), the DM3500 is certified to 0.2 inches (0.5 cm) at speeds to 600 ft/min (183 m/min).

The DM3500 from Accu-Sort accurately determines the volume of in-motion, cube-shaped packages on flat conveyor belts. This allows users to accurately calculate shipping charges on in-motion parcel streams. The DM3500 calculates real volume and the smallest box to enclose an object without contacting the object. It also:

* Measures the length, width and height of objects

* Measures different shaped objects

"These certifications allow shippers to determine accurate shipping charges," said Adnan Ahmed, vice president of marketing. "Previously, shippers either relied on dimensioning data provided by their customers to calculate costs, or they had to measure packages manually. This opens up a significant additional revenue opportunity for parcel shippers."

NTEP is an evaluation program administered by the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM) in which weighing and measuring devices are examined to determine if their performance, operating characteristics, features and options comply with the applicable requirements of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Devices meeting NTEP requirements are certified as being best in class for any "legal for trade" applications.

Measurement Canada is an agency of Industry Canada that oversees programs and services that evaluate and certify the accuracy of measuring equipment. The agency sets the rules of the marketplace with respect to trade measurement and ensures that they are uniformly implemented. Measurement Canada certification ensures that instruments are capable of measuring accurately under normal conditions of use throughout their service lives and are approved for retail or commercial use.
