Accton Offers VARs a Christmas Bonus: Free Five-port Hub with Five 10BASE-T Adapters.SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 1995--Accton Technology Corp., the Ethernet equipment manufacturer that specializes in workgroup connectivity solutions, today announced a new reseller bonus program just in time for Christmas. From now until Jan. 31, 1996, value-added resellers can buy a five-pack of either Accton's EtherPair-16 or EtherCombo-16 MPX MPX - Multiplexor Channel 2 10BASE-T adapters and they will receive Accton's new Venus 5-port Ethernet hub, a $99 value, absolutely free. "Through this special VAR bonus program, we can provide resellers with a turnkey workgroup integration solution," said Scott Stanforth, Vice President of Marketing for Accton. "By bundling our new compact Venus hub combining with our popular MPX2 adapters, VARs can install a complete five-user workgroup in minutes. And they get the added bonus of saving the $99 price of the hub." Accton's Venus (EH2044S) five-port Ethernet hub is a cost-effective 10BASE-T concentrator that can be installed in less than 60 seconds. Just plug in the power supply, connect the cables to the five RJ-45 ports, and the Venus does the rest. There are no dip switches to set and no special software to load. Unlike similar plug-and-play 10BASE-T hubs, the Venus includes its own AC adapter and has five fully shielded RJ-45 ports, including a daisy-chain port so it can be connected to other hubs or to a network backbone. It also includes a full array of 13 color-coded LEDs to monitor power, transmission activity, and collisions. There are two LEDs per port to show link status at a glance. And each port also provides auto-partitioning and automatic polarity correction. Accton's EtherPair-16 (EN1661) and EtherCombo-16 (EN1660) MPX2 adapters are 16-bit, NE2000-compatible ISA (1) (Instruction Set Architecture) See instruction set. (2) (Interactive Services Association) See Internet Alliance. (3) (Internet Security and Acceleration) See .NET. Ethernet adapters. The EtherPair-16 has a single RJ-45 connector for unshielded Adj. 1. unshielded - (used especially of machinery) not protected by a shield unprotected - lacking protection or defense twisted-pair cable, and the EtherCombo-16 has self-sensing AUI (Attachment Unit Interface) The network interface used with the original Ethernet. See 10Base5. 1. (tool, product) AUI - Adaptable User Interface. 2. (networking) AUI - Attachment Unit Interface. , BNC (hardware) BNC - A connector for coaxial cable such as that used for some video connections and RG58 "cheapernet" connections. A BNC connector has a bayonet-type shell with two small knobs on the female connector which lock into spiral slots in the male connector when it is twisted , and RJ-45 connectors for 10BASE-T, 10BASE2, or 10BASE5 cabling. Like all of Accton's MPX2 adapters, these NICs are completely self-configuring and provides automatic polarity correction for RJ-45 connections. Accton's MPX2 adapters also come with Accton's exclusive 1Step configuration system, which combines adapter auto-configuration, system diagnostics, and driver installation in a single program activated with one command. 1Step's auto-configuration program automatically selects the best available IRQs and I/O addresses and stores them in an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable ROM) A rewritable memory chip that holds its content without power. Although EEPROMs spawned flash memory, EEPROMs are byte addressable at the write level, whereas flash chips must erase a block of bytes before rewriting. chip on-board the adapter. 1Step supports a wide range of IRQ (Interrupt ReQuest) A hardware interrupt on a PC. There are 16 IRQ lines used to signal the CPU that a peripheral event has started or terminated. Except for PCI devices, two devices cannot use the same line. addresses, and provides I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output. I/O - Input/Output and boot ROM address information to minimize configuration conflicts. The EtherPair-16 five-pack retails for $495, or $99 each when sold separately. The EtherCombo five-pack sells for $545, or $109 each. As an added bonus, Accton is also offering two free adapters with the purchase of an EtherPair-16 or EtherCombo-16 10-pack; that's a dozen EtherPair-16s or a dozen EtherCombo-16s for the price of 10. The EtherPair-16 10-pack retails for $990 and the EtherCombo 10-pack is $1,090. Accton Technology Corp. is located at 1962 Zanker Road, San Jose, CA 95112; telephone 408/452-8900; FAX: 408/452-8988.
