The actions taken by the ABO are a direct result of formal hearings conducted under Chapter 119 of the Ohio Revised Code The Ohio Revised Code contains all acts passed by the Ohio General Assembly and signed by the governor. The Ohio Revised Code replaced the Ohio General Code in 1953. . For violations of the accountancy law, the ABO may hold a hearing and take disciplinary action against the CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. Its annual awards honored outstanding examples in print, broadcast and electronic media. The CPA disbanded in 2000.  certificate of an individual or a public accounting firm's registration.

For violations of the unlawful practice section of the accountancy law, a first degree misdemeanor misdemeanor, in law, a minor crime, in contrast to a felony. At common law a misdemeanor was a crime other than treason or a felony. Although it might be a grave offense, it did not affect the feudal bond or take away the offender's property. By the 19th cent. , the ABO may file charges with the appropriate local prosecutor against the firm or individual that unlawfully advertises as a CPA or CPA firm.
