The first such phones were installed in two Pennsylvania towns in the early 1960s. "Accord entered the multipoint arena with a sophisticated, scaleable multipoint solution that quickly gained acceptance in the market," said S. Ann ANN, Scotch law. Now, Accord is enhancing its already strong Conference Management features with Conference Greet and Guide and Touch Tone Conferencing -- required in order for this market to reach its potential.

Conference Greet and Guide

Participants entering a conference enabled with Conference Greet and Guide will be welcomed by a customized video/audio welcome screen. If desired, the user can then be met by an operator and guided through all aspects of the conference.

"Taking the technological burden off conference participants during a video conference call is one of V-SPAN's primary objectives," said Ken Hayward Ken Hayward is the member for Kallangur in the Queensland State Parliament. As a member of the Australian Labor Party, he is on the backbench of the government led by Premier Peter Beattie.  V-SPAN's president. "Accord's Conference Greet and Guide capability will allow our operators to quickly communicate and provide customized messages to conference participants optimizing the participants' conferencing experience and guaranteeing the end user a high-level of quality of service -- a true differentiator for the conferencing industry."

Unlike competing products, Accord's Conference Greet and Guide solution has several requested features including multi-way transcoding, multiple user-customizable video screens and audio messages, advanced operator-attended services and drag-and-drop In computer graphical user interfaces, drag-and-drop is the action of (or support for the action of) clicking on a virtual object and dragging it to a different location or onto another virtual object.  call transfer. -0-

-- With multi-way transcoding, conference participants are now
guaranteed connection regardless of the audio algorithm, network
speed, frame rate or resolution being used by the operator or
other conference participants. Previously, video conference
participants with mixed audio, network speed, frame rate or
resolution capabilities had difficulty connecting and
communicating with the conference operator, decreasing the
reliability of the entire conference and often forcing all
participants to succumb to an audio-only call.

-- Organizations can now offer four simultaneous unique welcome
screen entry queues. Although users have had access to welcome
video screens in the past, the Accord solution is the first that
lets people create an unlimited database of their own video
screens and audio messages to be used with any conference.

-- Because of Accord's simple Windows-based user interface with drag
and drop command capabilities, one operator can easily manage
multiple simultaneous conferences or several operators can manage
one large conference. Operators can also easily move participants
between conferences or create sub-conferences for private
     conversations.

Touch Tone Conferencing Management

The other key feature included as part of Accord's Conference Management package is Touch Tone Conferencing Management. At any time, users participating with any endpoint can initiate an ad-hoc conference, enter a reserved conference, disconnect disconnect - SCSI reconnect  sites, and perform complex conference control actions such as changing Continuous Presence layouts and muting muting

sites - all through their touch tone phone.

An industry first, Accord will provide Touch Tone Conference Management capabilities through interactive voice response allowing participants to be easily guided through the commands and menus. Interactive voice response creates a simple environment for participants to make on-the-fly conference changes and is yet another tool that simplifies managing a multipoint conference. Prompt assisted touch tone capabilities is required to ensure conferencing is more like real meetings - where participants may need the means to easily enter, leave, or initiate a conference. Until this offering, users needed to know the command menu and were not offered any voice prompting A recorded message that is played by auto attendants, interactive voice response (IVR) systems, message-on-hold systems and other voice processing tools. The "prompt" is a request to input some data; a recording that does not ask for feedback is more properly called a voice "message." .
