appearance. Hits and interactions are precaluclated through momentum-based physics, which are displayed through an unprecedented number of checking animations. Additionally, Acclaim's proprietary motion capture technology brings the whole game together with incredibly realistic hockey movements.

"NHL Breakaway '98 must be seen and played to be believed. You really feel the crunch of the checks and the speed of the puck. NHL Breakaway '98 boasts ground-breaking hockey features such as an individual player-fatigue system, playbook-based artificial intelligence and advanced coaching strategies. The individual energy system graphically displays a particular player's fatigue level and is based not only on his amount of ice-time during the game but also on how long the player is actually accustomed to playing. The playbook-based AI lets gamers play their NHL counterparts' real-life game styles, including forecheck, dump-and-chase and the neutral zone trap The neutral zone trap is a defensive ice hockey strategy used by a team to prevent an opposing team from proceeding through the neutral zone (the area between both blue lines) by forcing turnovers in that area. . Advanced coaching strategies allow gamers to set styles for physical play, power play and penalty killing as well as adjusting defensive alignments and shadowing the opposition's best player.
