Acclaim Communications Unveils Network Management Tools; Provides Integrated LAN and WAN Management.

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1997--Acclaim Communications Inc. today launched its Windows- and Java-based SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  network management software products, WindowView(TM) Lite, WindowView Deluxe, WebView(TM) Lite and WebView Deluxe.

These products use SNMP to handle device management for all of Acclaim's frame relay A high-speed packet switching protocol used in wide area networks (WANs). Providing a granular service of up to DS3 speed (45 Mbps), it has become popular for LAN to LAN connections across remote distances, and services are offered by most major carriers.  and Ethernet switch A device that connects clients and servers to each other in an Ethernet network. They can also share data with other SNMP management systems, such as HP OpenView HP OpenView was a Hewlett Packard product range consisting of an extensive portfolio of network and systems management products. In 2007 the entire HP OpenView portfolio was rebranded under the strengthened HP Software name.  and SunNet Manager.

Acclaim Communications is demonstrating WindowView and WebView this week at ComNet '97 to demonstrate configuration and device management of its 3200FR Frame Relay Access Device/Router (FRAD/ FRAR FRAR Fonds Régionaux d'Amenagement Rural (French) ) and EtherWAN Access Switch.

"Acclaim is unique in its approach of seamlessly integrating multiple LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  and WAN functions and allowing them to be controlled by a single network management system," said Acclaim President Vish Akella. "The benefits of such a system are ease of installation, troubleshooting, and on-going management."

Acclaim's WindowView and WebView managers provide extensive support for legacy data and routing protocols. They can be configured with system and protocol parameters while providing private extensions for advanced configuration.

WindowView products run under Windows 95 or Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. . WebView is a Java-based application that supports any Java-based Internet browsers. The Lite versions provide configuration functions only and are included with each Acclaim switch or frame relay router. The Deluxe programs provide more extensive device features, such as management of all device parameters, faults measurements, and performance statistics.
