Acclaim Communications Adds Voice Over Data to its FRADs; LiveVoice Establishes a New Price Point for Voice Over Frame Relay.WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1997--Acclaim Communications Inc. today unveiled a voice over Frame Relay module, LiveVoice(TM), for its Series 3000 family of integrated Frame Relay Access Devices/Routers (FRAD/FRARs). LiveVoice stands apart from other products offering voice over data, by breaking the $700 per channel retail price and providing high voice density and an advanced feature set in a desktop unit. LiveVoice supports up to four voice channels. Acclaim Communications is demonstrating LiveVoice this week at ComNet '97 by sending compressed voice data over frame relay on the Acclaim 3200FR router. LiveVoice lets users take full advantage of their private frame relay network, by carrying voice as well as data. These private networks bypass public switched telephone networks (PSTNs) and the costs associated with using them. "LiveVoice allows users to maximize their investment in Frame Relay by adding voice capabilities without adding extensive hardware and re-configuring the PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN). ," said Acclaim President Vish Akella. "We will realize thousands of dollars savings in our international phone bills by implementing Acclaim's LiveVoice," said Tom Alexander, president of Japan Direct Corp. LiveVoice is a field-upgradeable accessory, consisting of the LiveVoice voice compression SIMM module and a daughtercard See daughterboard. daughtercard - daughterdboard consisting of a Subscriber Link interface circuit (SLIC SLIC Subscriber Line Interface Circuit SLIC Scottish Library and Information Council SLIC System Licensed Internal Code SLIC Subscriber Line Interface Card SLIC Session Layer Interface Card (Alacritech, Inc. ). LiveVoice Provides Leading Industry Features LiveVoice can be connected to Foreign Exchange Station (FXS (Foreign eXchange Station) The interface provided by the telephone company to its customers, which includes dial tone, power and ring voltage. The telephone jack on the wall is an FXS interface. ), Foreign Exchange Office (FXO FXO Foreign Exchange Office ), or a 4 wire E&M interface. By supporting such a wide range of telephony interface standards, LiveVoice is compatible with virtually every PBX and digital phone in the world. LiveVoice combines voice and data on the same DLCI (Data Link Connection Identifier) The number of a private or switched virtual circuit in a frame relay network. Located in the frame header, the DLCI field identifies which logical circuit the data travels over, and each DLCI has a committed information rate allowing users significant savings by minimizing the number of expensive DLCIs. LiveVoice voice compression is configurable from 4.8Kbps to 32Kbps which allows the optimization of voice quality. In addition to ensuring voice quality through modifying compression rates, LiveVoice's technology uses an advanced priority scheme to give voice the highest priority over LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. and legacy traffic. LiveVoice's processing can differentiate between local and local distance calls. In addition to voice conversations, LiveVoice supports fax and a voice mail system on a destination PBX. Since LiveVoice uses the same dialing format as normal calls through the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) The worldwide voice telephone network. Once only an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. In the U.S. , there is no need to learn a new dialing system. All parameters and statistics are SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. data, so they can be configured on or managed via any SNMP manager or Acclaim's WindowView(TM) or WebView(TM) SNMP managers. Acclaim is the only vendor which provides an SNMP manager specifically tuned for managing voice over frame relay.
