Accident verdict.


A widow was seriously injured in a car accident that may have contributed to her husband's death.

Although the injuries suffered by Raymond Stewart, 72, were not severe enough to cause his death, the trauma of the accident may have triggered off the aneurysm aneurysm (ăn`yrĭzəm), localized dilatation of a blood vessel, particularly an artery, or the heart.  which killed him just hours later, an inquest inquest, in law, a body of men appointed by law to inquire into certain matters. The term also refers to the inquiry itself as well as to the findings of the inquiry.  heard.

But pathologist Dr Douglas Maloney told the Durham inquest Mr Stewart, who died after being taken to the city's University Hospital, had a condition which meant the aneurysm could have been triggered at any time.

The inquest heard Mr Stewart, of Crosslea Avenue, in Sunderland, and wife Sheila were returning home when their car hit a van near Bishop Auckland Bishop Auckland (ôk`lənd), town (1991 pop. 23,560), Durham, NE England, on the Wear River. It is a busy market area, and the town's industries include textiles and engineering. . Coroner Andrew Tweddle recorded a verdict of accidental death.
