The entire 3,200-word interview is available free online at http://www.twst.com/ceos.htm

Gray gives an overview of the company. "Our primary customer is the mid to large pharmaceutical companies, where it is our objective to provide value-added products to these customers for ultimate marketing to the end user. At this point in time, it is not in our business strategy to have our own sales and marketing organization. We are more of a development company, as compared to a fully integrated company."

Gray explains, "We try to maintain a balance of low-, medium- and high-risk high-risk adjective Referring to an ↑ risk of suffering from a particular condition Infectious disease Referring to an ↑ risk for exposure to blood-borne pathogens, which occurs with blood bank technicians, dental professionals, dialysis unit  projects. Generally, the higher the risk, the greater the potential reward. But we do have some ongoing lower risk projects, which are also very significant market opportunities. Obviously, that's a place you want to be. We've also looked at reducing our financial risk by adopting a strategy where we don't intend to be a fully integrated company. We do not perform basic research in the company."

Looking forward, Gray states, "I would anticipate that the movement toward consolidation in all sectors -- large pharma, the emerging pharmaceutical and the biotechnology sector -- to continue at an accelerated rate. We have gone about establishing this company to take advantage of that situation. I have always believed that there are far too many smaller companies and that one management group could effectively develop numerous technologies. Access has been established by accumulating technologies and companies, putting them under the one management entity, and then leveraging that management entity across those technologies."
