Interoperability Testing Verifies Product's Suitability to Perform TR-303 Call Concentration and Completion While Terminated to a Lucent

5ESS AnyMedia Switch

Carrier Access Corporation (Nasdaq: CACS), a leading provider of broadband access See broadband and wireless broadband.  equipment, announced today that its Access Navigator GR-303 Host has successfully completed Lucent Technologies' interoperability testing, qualifying it for use with the Lucent 5ESS switch.

The comprehensive battery of tests, conducted in Lucent Technologies' LIVE Net test facility, confirms that the Access Navigator meets Lucent Technologies' standards for a TR-303 call concentration solution and will perform appropriately when terminated to a Lucent 5E switch system.

The Access Navigator is the second Carrier Access product to successfully complete Lucent interoperability testing. The Wide Bank 28 STS-1 broadband service See broadband and broadband service provider.  deployment platform from Carrier Access was verified for use with the 5ESS switch earlier this year. The Access Navigator GR-303 Host provides cost-effective and efficient access by enabling delivery of integrated voice, Internet access See how to access the Internet.  and data services.

The Access Navigator functions as a 32 T1 full 1/0 non-blocking Digital Crossconnect System with GR-303 host control capability in a compact 1.5 RU footprint. Its small physical size allows deployments closer to customer access points, enabling significant reduction in costs associated with bandwidth backhaul to the serving office. With the Access Navigator GR-303, users can expand the capacity of their Lucent Technologies' 5ESS TR-303 switch port interface by aggregating and concentrating multiple DS1 lines into a TR-303 trunk group signal feeding into the switch.

"Because so many service providers already have 5ESS switches, we recognized an opportunity to help them achieve greater service density at a lower cost per DS1," noted Christian Militeau, senior product marketing manager at Carrier Access. "Our customers can deliver up to four times as many DS1s with the switch port relief they get with the Access Navigator's voice concentration feature."
