Access Health Names Julie Brooks Senior VP, General Counsel.

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 1996--Julie A. Brooks has been appointed senior vice president and general counsel of Access Health, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACCS) effective September 30, 1996.

Thomas E. Gardner, president and chief operating officer, announced that Brooks, who has more than 12 years of public corporation experience as general counsel and corporate secretary, will also serve as corporate secretary to Access Health's board of directors.

In her new role, Brooks will be responsible for the legal affairs, government relations, corporate communications and corporate development functions of Access Health. Brooks most recently headed The General Counsel, Inc., a Seattle-based legal services company she founded in 1992 to act as general counsel to medium-sized corporations.

Prior to forming her company, Brooks served as the vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Westmark, International, Inc., a $500 million manufacturer of diagnostic ultrasound and patient monitoring systems based in Seattle. In that role, she managed the legal affairs function for all of the public company's operations, including Westmark's three operating divisions and 30 worldwide sales subsidiaries.

In addition, she has worked as an attorney with Lane, Powell, Spears & Lubersky in Seattle and for the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division.

Brooks earned her bachelor's and MBA degrees at the University of Washington and her law degree from Santa Clara University. She also has a master's of law in taxation degree from Georgetown University. Brooks has been active in numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, the Washington State Bar Association and the Washington Software Association. Additionally, she is a member of the American Corporate Counsel Association and the American Bar Association. She has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in Women of the World. Upside Magazine included Brooks in a 1990 feature story on general counsels of technology companies.
