The value of the contract is estimated by the Army to be $431 million over a 10-year performance period. The purpose of the new financial system, known as the General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS GFEBS General Fund Enterprise Business System (US Army) ), is to help the Army standardize stan·dard·ize v. 1. To cause to conform to a standard. 2. To evaluate by comparing with a standard. and streamline its financial business processes to provide continuous access to accurate, reliable and timely financial information across the entire organization. GFEBS will replace three existing information systems -- the Standard Army Finance System, the Defense Joint Accounting System and the Standard Operation and Maintenance Army Research and Development System. The GFEBS solution will be based on commercial-off-the-shelf software from SAP to manage $100 billion in annual appropriated expenditures across the active Army, National Guard and Army Reserves. GFEBS will be Web-based and is intended to support more than 79,000 users in over 200 locations around the world. The system will be designed to integrate seamlessly into the Army's current information technology environment.
