Spot colors are used when only one or two solid colors are needed on a page or when a color has to match perfectly and be consistent such as with a company logo or when colors are the trademark of the printing systems, today announced a new version of its Truecolor(TM) Systems with a printing resolution of 300 dots per inch (dpi). IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM said it is accepting orders for the new capability, supporting 300-dpi configurations of the InfoPrint 4000 continuous-form, high-speed production printers. Shipments to end users have already begun, with technical support, consumables and service supplied via normal channels. The previous 240-dpi version will also continue to be available. The IBM InfoPrint Hi-Lite Color, 300-dpi configuration, provides color coverage of more than 6.8 inches for a given page. Variable-data processing permits unique information to be printed on every page so that critical information such as Amount Due or Date Due, or a customer-specific marketing message can be highlighted in color to draw attention. The 300-dpi version utilizes the same consumable A material that is used up and needs continuous replenishment, such as paper and toner. Many installed continuous-form printers already utilize a 300-dpi data stream, and Accent Color's enhancement makes the IBM InfoPrint Hi-Lite Color post-processor compatible with those installations.
