This new release provides a robust, standards driven interface for clients to leverage Accellion's distributed storage directly from their application with seamless interoperability. The Accellion Medical Image Storage & Archive module leverages the standards-based interface of SeOS v3.1 to provide a complete end-to-end storage solution for the medical image market. This module specifically enables hospitals and imaging centers to better manage, store, archive and retrieve patient images without having to invest in, or manage, their own storage infrastructure. Accellion has also developed a Medical Image Management (MIM) platform that combines Accellion's storage management expertise with streaming capabilities for real-time viewing and collaboration on patient x-ray records.

The Accellion Medical Image Storage & Archive module fills the storage and retrieval gap between the digital radiography machine and the image viewer. A digital x-ray image is downloaded to a local server and stored for immediate access and viewing. A copy of that image and associated patient information is then automatically replicated off-site for storage and centralized access for when an outside opinion or additional consultation on the case may be needed. Additionally, all images are backed up on a daily basis to a secondary off-site location for disaster recovery purposes. After a pre-determined length of time, local copies of patient images are purged and the off-site copy moves to an archival storage system.
