Accelerated Technology's Nucleus USB Now Gives Developers Mass Storage Class Driver Support for Their USB Applications.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

MOBILE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 2003

Accelerated Technology(R), the Embedded Systems Embedded systems

Computer systems that cannot be programmed by the user because they are preprogrammed for a specific task and are buried within the equipment they serve.
Division of Mentor Graphics Mentor Graphics, Inc (NASDAQ: MENT) is a US-based multinational corporation dealing in electronic design automation (EDA) for electrical engineering and electronics, as of 2004, ranked third in the EDA industry it helped create.  Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT), today announced mass storage class driver support for the Nucleus(R) USB USB

(hardware, standard) Universal Serial Bus - (USB) An external peripheral interface standard for communication between a computer and external peripherals over an inexpensive cable using biserial transmission.
(USB) support for the Nucleus Real-Time Operating System (operating system) Real-Time Operating System - (RTOS) Any operating system where interrupts are guaranteed to be handled within a certain specified maximum time, thereby making it suitable for control of hardware in embedded systems and other time-critical applications.  (RTOS (1) (RealTime Operating System) An operating system designed for use in a real time computer system. See real time system, embedded system, process control and OS-9. ).

Mass storage class driver support for the Nucleus USB software is an integrated package allowing developers to speed their time to market and focus on adding value to their core product rather than writing the source code for the driver themselves.

USB is a plug-and-play interface, traditionally between a computer and a peripheral, and it is rapidly being adopted in the embedded market Refers to custom-designed, computer-based devices and applications that perform a fixed set of tasks. It may refer to cellphones and other handhelds, network appliances (routers, access points, modems) and myriad consumer electronics products.  space. According to according to

when a peripheral is plugged in. USB can also replace several other types of cables including serial and parallel cables, and USB can actually deliver power to low-powered devices.

The mass storage class driver has been released for use with both the Nucleus USB host stack and the Nucleus USB function/device stack. The mass storage class driver provides a mechanism for an application to access a mass storage device (hard drive and flash media for example) through the Nucleus FILE file management software. The integration with the Nucleus FILE file management software allows the Nucleus USB mass storage software to leverage the media and protocol support already present in the Nucleus FILE software. A typical embedded application that utilizes mass storage on a device would involve data acquisition and control. The data would be buffered to the embedded device temporarily for later transfer via USB to a host.

"With the introduction of mass storage class driver support for the Nucleus USB software, we are able to provide a complete package to our customers enabling them to accelerate their time-to-market for their designs that include USB support," said Robert Day Robert Day (1836-1914) was an Irish antiquarian and photographer. Biography
Day was involved in his family's extensive saddlery business together with a sports shop well known to Cork anglers.
, director of marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division.

The Nucleus USB component is complete, fast, small and portable. It takes advantage of the Nucleus software services and runs on any system supported by the Nucleus PLUS kernel. Drivers will also be available for additional Nucleus software components including the Nucleus NET TCP/IP stack, Nucleus FILE file management software and Nucleus GRAFIX graphics package.

Availability and Pricing

The Nucleus embedded software is licensed with source code and without royalty fees. Available now, licenses for the Nucleus USB software start at U.S. $14,995. For more information, please contact Accelerated Technology at 800-468-6853 or info@acceleratedtechnology.com.
