Accelerated Technology's Nucleus Networking Software Validated by Ixia's ANVL Testing Tool.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

MOBILE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 2003

Accelerated Technology(R), the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT), today announced that the Nucleus(R) NET TCP/IP TCP/IP
in full Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol

Standard Internet communications protocols that allow digital computers to communicate over long distances.
protocol stack and networking components have been tested and validated by the Automated Network Validation Library (ANVL ANVL Automated Network Validation Library (TM)), a data network testing solution from Ixia (Nasdaq:XXIA). This intensive validation confirms that the Nucleus networking software fully conforms to the official Internet networking standards which are maintained and administered by the Internet Engineering Task Force (c/o Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI), Reston, VA, www.ietf.org) Founded in 1986, the IETF is a non-membership, open, voluntary standards organization dedicated to identifying problems and opportunities in IP data networks and proposing technical solutions to the  (IETF See Internet Engineering Task Force.

Ixia's ANVL is an automated testing package that validates the protocol implementations and operational robustness of networking devices. By incorporating ANVL into the development and test processes, users save valuable time and money because they do not have to spend development time writing custom conformance tests.

Accelerated Technology's network protocol offering is among the broadest in the embedded industry. It includes the Nucleus NET TCP/IP protocol stack, Internet applications such as a Web server and e-mail software, and network management products such as the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. ) and Remote Monitoring (RMON (Remote MONitoring) Enhancements to the management information base (MIB) structure used by the simple network management protocol (SNMP). In 1991, RMON added comprehensive network monitoring capabilities. ). Some of the recent additions to the networking suite are 802.11b support and Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). With so many networking protocols, it is important to have the ANVL testing tool to verify conformance with industry specifications. To date, both the Nucleus NET protocol stack and the Nucleus IPv6 software have been tested and validated with Ixia's ANVL.

Since the Nucleus software is often used to build mission critical applications, it is important that the Nucleus software adheres to the highest quality standards. This is a responsibility that Accelerated Technology takes seriously and ultimately led the company to use ANVL. The ANVL testing suite helps ensure that the Nucleus software is adequately tested and that the Nucleus software customers receive the highest quality products possible.

"Part of the success of the Nucleus real-time operating system (operating system) Real-Time Operating System - (RTOS) Any operating system where interrupts are guaranteed to be handled within a certain specified maximum time, thereby making it suitable for control of hardware in embedded systems and other time-critical applications.  has been due to our commitment to both providing a complete networking product suite and to producing quality products. Ixia's ANVL reinforces our ability to execute on both of those commitments, enabling us to deliver high-quality networking protocols to market quickly," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division.

"Ixia continues to be committed to our ANVL conformance validation test suite because conformance testing has demonstrated its ability to speed customers' time to market resulting in substantial cost savings," said Alan Amrod, vice president of Marketing for Ixia. "We are delighted to have played a critical role in Mentor Graphics development and testing stages as it expands its offerings into the networking market."

The Nucleus NET networking stack, a scalable embedded TCP/IP protocol stack, is the basis for Accelerated Technology's networking suite. The Nucleus NET stack, unlike other protocol stacks in the embedded industry, was built from the ground up for the real-time embedded market. In addition, critical portions of the stack have been optimized, resulting in a stack that is among the smallest and fastest on the market. The basic protocols for the Nucleus NET protocol stack include: TCP, UDP UDP (uridine diphosphate): see uracil.

(User Datagram Protocol) A protocol within the TCP/IP protocol suite that is used in place of TCP when a reliable delivery is not required.
, IP, ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) A TCP/IP protocol used to send error and control messages. For example, a router uses ICMP to notify the sender that its destination node is not available. , IGMP (Internet Group Multicast Protocol) The protocol that governs the management of multicast groups in a TCP/IP network. To sign up for a multicast group, a Host Membership Report is sent by a user's machine to its nearest routers, which forward that data to , ARP, RARP, DHCP, BOOTP (BOOTstrap Protocol) A TCP/IP protocol used by a diskless workstation or network computer (NC) to obtain its IP address and other network information such as server address and default gateway.  and DNS (Domain Name System) A system for converting host names and domain names into IP addresses on the Internet or on local networks that use the TCP/IP protocol. For example, when a Web site address is given to the DNS either by typing a URL in a browser or behind the .
