, animation and visualization applications to tap into workstation-class performance - while maintaining the convenience of Windows NT (Windows 95 in Q3 '96). The configurability and flexibility of the AccelPRO line offers a variety of exceptional price-performance options designed to meet the needs of both price-sensitive and performance-oriented users.

"Running Pro/ENGINEER in a high-performance Windows NT environment is very important to many of our customers. The unique combination of 3D graphics features, performance and price offered by the AccelPRO make the Windows NT platform very appealing to them. We are pleased that these cards will enable Pro/ENGINEER customers using Windows NT to enhance their level of price/performance," said Glenn Sinclair, Hardware Partner Manager at Parametric Technology Corporation |Parametric Technology Corporation]]

Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC)(NASDAQ: PMTC) provides Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) engineering CAD/CAM software and content management and dynamic publishing solutions to more than 40,000 companies worldwide.

The AccelPRO boards are available in 8MB, 12MB and 16MB configurations, all delivering a smooth double-buffered display at resolutions up to 1280x1024 and supporting a minimum 16 bit Z-Buffer. The Z-Buffer depth can be upgraded with an optional 4MB memory module that increases the Z-Buffer depth from 16 bits to 24 bits for visually demanding applications such as large scale animation, architectural walk-throughs and plant design. The boards support 15 bit double buffered color at 1280x1024 resolutions or 24 bit double buffered true color (1) Specifically, refers to 16,777,216 colors (24-bit color). See high color.

(2) Generically, refers to photo-realistic color (typically requires 24-bit color as a minimum).
at 1024x768 and include on board VGA (Video Graphics Array) The display standard for the PC. All PC display adapters support VGA, and Windows machines boot up in "VGA mode" before switching to higher resolutions. , eliminating the need for an additional card in the system.

Greg Milliken, vice president of marketing for AccelGraphics, stated, "We are excited to be able to offer this level of performance at prices well within the professional NT-users range. The AccelPRO boards are up to 3 times faster than our previous products and 25% faster than other 3D NT accelerators - and priced lower!

Additionally, when the new AccelPRO product line is combined with a Pentium Pro The sixth generation of the Intel x86 family of CPU chips. The term may refer to the chip or to a PC that uses it. Introduced in 1995 as the successor to the Pentium, models from 150 MHz to 200 MHz were released.  200 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. At the time, the market was mostly dominated by Apple.  R5000 XZ at $21,995 for 64MB, 2GB disk, 20" monitor). Faster graphics mean more interactivity and increased productivity, therefore reducing the time to market for professional developers and designers."

John McEleney, Director of Business Development for SolidWorks Corporation, commented, "AccelGraphics has consistently lead the market in delivering leading price-performance 3D graphics solutions for SolidWorks users. SolidWorks' objective is to bring solid modeling to the desktop and high-performance 3D graphics is a key component of our product. Coupled with AccelGraphics' new AccelPRO family of 3D accelerators SolidWorks delivers a desirable solution for the mechanical designer or engineer."

John Ison, Director of Product Management at Kinetix(TM), Autodesk, Inc.'s multimedia business unit added, "The high-performance AccelPRO 3D accelerators from AccelGraphics are an excellent complement to 3D Studio MAX. One of the key new features of 3D Studio MAX is the ability to take advantage of 3D hardware acceleration In computing, hardware acceleration is the use of hardware to perform some function faster than is possible in software running on the normal (general purpose) CPU. Examples of hardware acceleration include blitting acceleration functionality in graphics processing units (GPUs) and  via the high-performance Heidi 3D graphics API. The AccelPRO fully supports the Heidi API and offers tremendous value to our customers."

Featuring AccelGraphics' optimized OpenGL drivers (and Heidi(TM) drivers for 3D Studio MAXZ(TM)), the AccelPRO boards offer workstation-class performance with 550,000 3D shaded triangles per second and 900,000 3D vectors per second. In addition, the AccelPRO line is fully certified by Parametric Technology on a variety of platforms including HP, Compaq and Digital. The boards are also certified for SolidWorks 95.

In addition to the certified applications, the AccelPRO line has been tested and will be certified for the following applications in Q3 '96: AutoCAD Release 13 and Mechanical Desktop, SDRC (company) SDRC - The company behind VGX.
