Accedian Networks Unveils Industry's First Line-Powered Ethernet NID.MONTREAL -- Accedian Networks Inc. announced today the introduction of the EtherNID(TM), industry's first LINE-POWERED Intelligent Demarcation Device for Ethernet Services (patent pending). Accedian's EtherNID(TM) is powered using IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields. 802.3af compliant Power Over Ethernet Power over Ethernet or PoE technology describes a system to transmit electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard twisted-pair cable in an Ethernet network. (PoE) thus extending the reliability of the Carrier's 48V power plant all the way to the customer's IT closet and avoiding dependency on customer-provided power at the service delivery location. On top of implementing standards-based Ethernet OAM (Operations Administration Maintenance) Refers to managing and maintaining a network or network device. The P in "OAM&P" adds "provisioning" to the list, which is a telephone company term for setting up a service. (Operations, Administration and Maintenance) and loop-backs to extend the Carrier's Network visibility up to the customer's premises, the EtherNID(TM) implements Carrier must-have features such as a Transparent Fail-over Bypass and is optimized for "High-Performance" Ethernet with its unique Fast-Thru(TM) architecture for ultra-low latency and packet-jitter, thus making it ideal for the delivery of Video and VOIP (Voice Over IP) A digital telephone service that uses the public Internet as well as private backbones instead of the traditional telephone network. Many companies, including Vonage, 8x8 and AT&T (CallVantage), typically offer calling within the country for a over Ethernet. "Carriers want to extend the reach of their Ethernet Network OAM up to the service delivery point but won't sacrifice network reliability to achieve this", said Patrick Ostiguy, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. of Accedian Networks, "by providing line-power capabilities along with a transparent fail-safe bypass mechanism, the EtherNID(TM) answers this need and provides the level of reliability that Carriers have come to expect from traditional demarcation devices." The EtherNID(TM) also comes equipped with two Monitor Access Ports where external test equipment can be connected to perform non-intrusive troubleshooting, thus offering independent Monitoring Access to each direction independently, a function that Carriers are used-to with traditional demarcation devices but lacking from current Ethernet service delivery methods. Additionally, the EtherNID(TM) allows combining both signal directions on a single Monitor Access port by using a Port Mirroring function. Accedian's EtherNID(TM) will be featured as part of Telecommunication's 10 Hottest Technologies Pavilion at Supercomm 2005, June 7-9th, McCormick Place McCormick Place is an enormous exposition complex located in Chicago, Illinois. , booth # 82015K.
